Immigrants and every resident of the United States have fundamental rights
Knowing your rights and having a plan in place can reduce fear and anxiety during enforcement actions. Again, this applies to all residents regardless of immigration status.
CRI Rapid Response strives to give community support to communities both before and after any incident. We feel that building community is a great way to create resilience within that community and to protect vulnerable populations.
One of the most important resources is D.I.R.E. (Deportations & Immigration Response Equipo). It is an organization that provides support for undocumented individuals and families. It also receives reports of ICE Activity. If you see any ICE activity call the hotline immediately: 1 -888-347-3767. When you are reporting activity to D.I.R.E. make sure you provide the EXACT LOCATION, the EXACT TIME OF DAY, the NUMBER OF ICE AGENTS, and ANY ADDITIONAL DETAILS THAT YOU FEEL ARE RELEVANT.
The D.I.R.E. program is run by Churches Improving Communities, a non-profit organization. It provides a wide array of services to people facing immigration and detention crises including:
- A 24/7 Hotline (1-888-DIRE-SOS): that is available for those experiencing family separation or other immigration issues.
- Legal Services: The program offers low-cost immigration legal services to low-income immigrants and their families
- Support Services: Through “Navigators” or “Guias”, the program connects individuals with community volunteers who provide advocacy and listening support.
- Court Accompaniment: D.I.R.E. offers accompaniment to immigration court for those who feel unsafe attending alone.
- Assistance and Referrals: The organization also provides case management, counseling, food assistance, and referrals for housing.
