If You See ICE
- If you see ICE, spread information not fear
- Call DIRE’s Rapid Response Hotline Immediately: 1-888-347-3767
- Tell DIRE the exact time and location of the ICE activity
- Take photos and videos of what you are seeing
- Send videos/photos to Movimiento Cosecha
Know Your Rights In Your Home
- If you choose to speak, ask ICE to slide a warrant under the door
- Make sure the warrant is signed by a judge and has your name and address (See picture of valid vs invalid warrants here)
- If they don’t provide a warrant with this information, you have the right not to open the door to your home
- Have a copy of this statement ready by your front door
- Ask for a lawyer, then remain silent. Do not answer any questions or sign any documents without speaking to a lawyer.
- You have the right to document ICE activity. You have the right to record ICE by videoing agents and their activities. If possible, also take down the badge numbers and the names of any agents.
- Don’t forget to call the DIRE Hotline to report the presence of ICE

- Have a copy of this statement ready in the Employees Only area of your job site
Know Your Rights in the Neighborhood
- Always start out by asking: “Am I Free to Go?”
- If ICE says you are free to go, LEAVE.
- It is unconstitutional for ICE to detain you without reasonable suspicion or a warrant signed by a judge
- You are not required to show ID. If you are a citizen, you can stand in solidarity by refusing to show ID and by keeping the focus on yourself
- DO NOT CARRY OR PROVIDE FAKE ID.
- Do not carry ID from your country of birth.
- Carry local ID and proof you have been as long as possible (example: a lease or electric bill)
- If ICE says you are not free to leave and they detain you, remain calm and do not resist.
- DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING WITHOUT A LAWYER.
- SAY “I DO NOT CONSENT TO THIS SEARCH” IF ICE ATTEMPTS TO SEARCH YOU.
- Document: You have the right to record ICE agents.
- If you are not the target of the action, tell the person being detained not to speak or sign anything without a lawyer.
Make a Plan
- ICE has been detaining people with documents and even US Citizens, so regardless of your status, have a plan
- Print out the statement found here and keep a copy by your door and another in your wallet or bag
- Memorize the number of lawyers and your emergency contacts
- Make plans for child care and pet care in the event you are detained
- Make sure you have think about medicines for yourself and people you care for
- Prepare important documents
- Connect with trusted neighbors
- Get to know your neighbors and local organizations now so that if you need them or they need you, those relationships have already been established
