SUMMARY:Lobby for the New Jersey Immigrant Trust Act
DESCRIPTION:The NJ Immigrant Trust Act is incredibly important and has been languishing in the state legislature for years. We have a very short period of time to get the act passed during this lame duck session\, so it’s an all -hands-on-deck moment across the state. \nWe need volunteers to go to Trenton together and lobby for this bill. You do not need to have any lobbying experience — nor is an understanding of how the legislature works or the bill itself essential. We will learn together. I’ve only lobbied a few times — and we will be led by a seasoned organizer. \nThere are organizations that will serve as the lead each day\, and we will connect with them. Getting numbers of people is very important — even just to be a presence. And remember: the legislators work for us. \nThe times for the event say 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.\, but it is quite possible that the lobbying will only last a few hours. If that happens\, we will change our schedule accordingly. We will organize carpooling\, too. \nThe trips have been interesting and fun. (Really). Join us.

SUMMARY:Citizens vs. Citizens Bank--Stop Funding ICE Detention Centers!
DESCRIPTION:Citizens Bank is a major lender to Geo Group and Core Civic\, both of whom run private prisons and detention facilities like Delany Hall in Newark\, Elizabeth Detention in Elizabeth NJ\, and Moshannon in Pennsylvania. \nAfter ICE abducts our friends and neighbors\, Delaney Hall\, Elizabeth Detention Center and Moshannon are where most of them are taken. There\, they are subject to abuses such inhumane living conditions\, severe medical neglect\, abusive treatment from guards\, poor food/water quality and more all while these corporations make record profits off of the suffering of human beings. \nThis must stop. \nJoin us in peacefully protesting their complicity. Bring your signs and your voice. \nPS. This is not all. We will position ourselves adjacent to Home Depot so we’ll let them know that they must do more to resist ICE raids at their stores! \nThis event’s address is private.\nSign up for more details.
