A. Pass New Jersey Immigrant Trust Act

  1. Lobby towns and counties to pass resolutions in support of the NJITA – work in progress
  2. Build a network of people across NJ who will collaborate on passing the NJITA – including lobbying in Trenton
  3. Identify players at the state level to access, persuade, and lobby lawmakers in Trenton

B. Support enforcement of law passed in 2021 that prohibits use of private prisons as immigrant detention facilities:  Assembly Bill 5207 aimed to ban state contracts for private    immigration detention centers, but this law was struck down by a federal appeals court in July 2025

C. Maintain updated list of immigration issues, needs, and actions on local, state, and national levels

  1. Regularly update committee members so we can prioritize our goals
  2. Make suggestions to advocates in action, call team and for social media
  3. Share relevant articles and trainings with members

D.  Develop a list of reputable legal resources to provide immigrants in need

  1. Lawyers
  2. Support organizations
    1. Cosecha  (North Jersey — Li) 
    2. Resistencia (Princeton – Ana) 
    3. El Pueblo Unido AC (https://www.elpueblounidoac.org/Atlantic City)
  3. Put together a packet of legal info for immigrants: Family Preparedness Plan, etc. (Might be able to get this from Imm Schools)

E.  Lobby school districts to provide training for all staff about what to do in the event of an ICE raid.
