PROTECTING DEMOCRACY
This committee has the opinion that the MAGA regime is not just trying to implement conservative policy (with which we may disagree) but is threatening our way of governance, including by attempting to remove checks and balances and fundamental freedoms we have fought to preserve and expand over generations. We are dedicated to tracking and opposing candidates, nominations, executive orders, and legislation at the state and federal level that would move us toward an oligarchical or authoritarian government and to supporting institutions, leaders, actions, and legislation that will strengthen and improve a fair and functioning democracy. We are concerned with:
- Freedom of the Press
- Freedom of Speech
- Freedom of Religion
- Freedom of Assembly
- Rule of Law
- Equal Rights
— and, we participate in election politics!
PROTECTING CIVIL & EQUAL RIGHTS
We understand that targeting and scapegoating sectors of the population is a strategy to divide and weaken us. No race or gender is superior and everyone in this free country is deserving of equal rights and equal opportunities. We are tracking and opposing efforts to roll back Diversity Equity Inclusion and Accessibility (DEIA) policies, personnel, and legislation. We aim to support institutions, leaders, actions, and legislation that work to unite us by protecting all of us.

Last Committee Meeting
The Democracy and Civil Equal Rights Committee had a great meeting on December 11! We discussed:
- Initiatives to help oust Van Drew from the 2nd Congressional District (CD-2) and to flip the House in the 2026 midterms – including a flyering campaign to begin in January!
- Civic engagement opportunities
- Conversation on building back a stronger democracy!
